Legal Landscape Workshop
Operate Your Business in 2019 and Beyond
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Elizabeth Murphy, a frequent CAHSAH speaker, attorney, and thought leader in the home health, hospice, and private duty industries, will once again help educate
CAHSAH members about the ever-changing laws and regulations applicable to home-care industry employers. This program will provide the latest updates on "me-too"
sexual harassment laws, wage hour laws, leave of absence laws, discrimination, overtime, anti-harassment requirements, meal and rest periods, mileage and drive time,
split shifts, business reimbursements, and other important topics. Ms. Murphy will also provide key insights from her busy law practice representing California home
care agencies, so that CAHSAH members will understand the kinds of lawsuits that are popular among employee-side lawyers, what kind of policies, practices and
documents you need to have in place to defend against such a claim, and generally what to do if you receive a claim from an employee or former employee.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Understand what kind of wage hour claims are popular right now, what you need to have in place to defend against such claims, and what to do if and when you receive one
- Understand how to protect yourself from existing liability – individual employee severance agreements and arbitration agreements
- Understand important changes that have taken place in Sacramento, and how those changes affect you, including important new laws related to the “me-too” movement
- Empower yourself to audit your HR practices and policies and eliminate potential liability that you may be facing before you hear from a plaintiffs’ lawyer
- Understand California's employee protections, including anti-discrimination, harassment, disability and leaves of absence categories
- Gain peace-of-mind over the policies you rely on to have a compliant workplace and a contented workforce
