AB 5 Webinar
ON-DEMAND
OVERVIEW
California just enacted two of the strictest new employment laws in the nation for classifying employees and for hiring independent contractors, AB 5 and AB 170. The definition of professional services has changed and dramatic new requirements for contracting for professional services are set to become effective on January 1, 2020. The new laws appear to supersede regulations that home health and hospice agencies have had for Title 22 services under agreement. All employers will need to understand the repercussions of these two new laws and ensure that they have reviewed their service contracts for compliance. CAHSAH has teamed up with Elizabeth Murphy, an employment law attorney who specializes in home care so that you are prepared for these sweeping changes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Understand and properly apply the distinction between an independent contractor and an employee
- Gain important assessment tools to use in evaluating your agency’s characterization of workers as independent contractors
- Understand important steps necessary in order to transition workers from independent contractors to employees
