  • Employment and Wage Hour Compliance

1 Day Virtual Workshop - 14 Day Subscription (6.5 CEUs)

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Due to the high rate at which home care is being targeted, this workshop will hone-in on legislative and judicial changes, how they are playing out in the courts, and how to strategically minimize your risk - far more than prior years. California seems to have taken a sharper left turn than in years prior. Governor Newsom has managed to make his pro-employee agenda more of a reality, and thus a greater risk for agencies of all types. As an example, when Viking Cruises made us believe that it was safe to waive PAGA in arbitration agreements, California is already trying to undo and outdo the US Supreme Court. It is more important than ever for home care, hospice, and other agencies to educate themselves and change key employment practices.

Topics that have surfaced and gained traction - to name a few - include client harassment, pay per visit, the growth of "protected classifications," the importance of various meal period waivers, contracting with facility-vendors, joint employment, clinging unsuccessfully to independent contractor classifications, the number of anti-caregiver retaliation laws, and many other trends that are making their way into lawsuits and arbitrations. The list goes on, making attendance at this year's workshop a must.

Liz Murphy has taught home care survival techniques for nearly 20 years now, through her frequent speaking events, her personal "in the trenches" experience, drawing from Jackson Lewis' 1,000+ nationwide employment attorneys, and her employer-wide partnership with CAHSAH. Now more than ever, Liz's very popular and educational full-day class is more important than ever. Whether you have attended before or are new to Liz's workshops, you absolutely must attend this one because she has revamped it to match the emergence of these important trends and protective strategies, while still teaching the more basic topics of prior years.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Compliance itself - achieving it, and avoiding the consequences of not doing so.
    2. Strategies for handling sticky employee problems before they bubble into lawsuits.
    3. Staying ahead of the curve and ahead of your colleagues those who might be doing things differently, and
    4. Anything else about which you have questions or need clarification.
