PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Join us for a one-day workshop on hospice coding training in ICD-10-CM. This dynamic program includes the latest updates on coding specifically for hospice agencies, covering an expanded list of codes and an introduction to Section I0010 of the new HOPE assessment related to principal diagnoses and comorbidities.
The workshop will start with an introduction to the ICD-10-CM code set, coding conventions, sequencing tips, and chapter-specific guidelines that cover all the chapters applicable to hospice patients. Attendees will have plenty of practice accessing the index and locating codes, identifying tabular list instructions, and coding hospice scenarios with common (and some not-so-common!) hospice diagnoses and conditions.
We will also focus on the documentation needed to choose the most specific codes to describe the terminal illness and related diagnoses. You'll leave the workshop with the ability to identify key points in the plan of care documentation, query the physician as needed for more descriptive information, and find and sequence the diagnosis codes appropriate to hospice patients and their care.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to gain a solid foundation in ICD-10-CM coding and its implications in hospice practice. Register now! What you’ve been waiting for!
Who Should Attend:
Hospice Nurses, Therapists, Clinical Supervisors, Executive Directors, Medical Directors, Financial Managers, and Quality Improvement & Billing Staff who are experienced with hospice coding.

ADDITIONAL WORKSHOP DETAILS
Source documents will be reviewed at the workshop. Source documents include the current (2025) guidelines. Check your manual for the 2025 guidelines. You may download the guidelines at https://www.cms.gov/files/document/fy-2025-icd-10-cm-coding-guidelines.pdf. This guidance will allow participants to further their education outside the class and arm them with the tools to research answers to questions that arise in their agencies. If the current guidelines are not in the coding manual, then the guidelines available at the link above may be used in testing for the HCS-D credential. Mastering coding skills takes practice and knowing where to find guidance ensures coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.
This class is designed with intermediate coders in mind. We recommend a review of the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting for 2025, pages 1 -20 of the document found at:
https://www.cms.gov/files/document/fy-2025-icd-10-cm-coding-guidelines.pdf prior to the workshop. These pages describe and define the Coding Conventions (Section I.A) & General Coding Guidelines (Section I.B). It is expected that intermediate coders already possess this foundational knowledge as it will not be the focus of this class. Your pre-class efforts will greatly enhance your learning experience.
