PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The goal of the Hospice Administrator Certificate Program (HACP) is to provide a supportive learning environment to you, as a hospice administrator.  You will be able to advance your skills and knowledge base to position your organization to prosper in emerging end-of-life care services and incorporate the complexities of quality, compliance, financial and strategic performance.  The three-day core curriculum is designed to prepare you for the challenges of administration and to thrive into the future.

 The HACP is a three-module curriculum:

  • LEGAL focuses on legal/compliance management to help you integrate quality, compliance and financial strategies appropriately and successfully.
  • FINANCE focuses on financial management principals and the integration of these principles with clinical management.
  • STRATEGY focuses on vision driven leadership and performance management strategies to position your organization for success.

General Learning Objectives and Expected Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the HACP, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key health care trends that will influence positioning strategies for your hospice organization.
  • Integrate data management and analysis methods into your quality assessment and performance improvement program.
  • Implement key financial management strategies to prepare and interpret financial documents and to understand the impact of current changes in health care.
  • Understand the importance of various accounting methods to improve agency performance and position for success.
  • Understand leadership responsibilities in promoting a quality driven organization.
  • Integrate corporate compliance issues with clinical, financial and legal integrity of the organization.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The Hospice Administrator Certificate Program (HACP®) was designed for Managers, Senior Administrators, DON's, DOO's, DPCS, CEO's, COO's, CFO's, Director of Training, Directors of Operation Management, Director of Business Development, Director of Social Services, Human Resources, Office Managers, Director of Clinical Services, and upper level management of a Home Care Medicare Certified agency. More experienced Administrators will gain insights and a refreshed understanding of home care or home health.


FACULTY

Katherine Morrison MSN, RN, CHPN

Katherine Morrison is the Director of Hospice Consulting Operations for WellSky, is an RN and holds a Master of Science in Nursing with a major in Nursing Informatics and a focus on Homeland Security. She has served in advancing levels of hospice leadership within large, multi-site health systems both in the Midwest and on the eastern seaboard and has extensive expertise in regulatory, compliance, and operational issues. As the subject matter expert for WellSky, Ms. Morrison monitors the changing economic and regulatory changes that impact all areas of hospice.  She is a passionate advocate for patients and providers of palliative care and hospice.  Ms. Morrison holds a certificate in hospice compliance from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN) and an End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) trainer and is also a CHAP Certified Consultant. Katherine serves on the National Association for Home Care and Hospice – Hospice Advisory Council and Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Council. She has provided education nationally to large and small organizations with high acclaim. An expert hospice and palliative care practitioner, effective educator and practical operator, Ms. Morrison brings high credibility to her efforts to advance hospice practice and patient/family advocacy across the country. 

 

Cindy Campbell MHA Healthcare Informatics, BSN, RN, CCS-HH

Cindy Campbell is a nationally recognized thought-leader and management consultant to the continuum of healthcare at home. Cindy holds a Master of Health Administration with specialty in Healthcare Informatics, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cindy brings deep experience leading multi-service line healthcare at home, followed by national management consulting across the country. Cindy and her colleagues help agencies leverage strategic thought, innovation and operational efficiency into organizational, work-process and clinical model design for Home Health, Hospice, Palliative Care and Private Duty organizations throughout the United States. A passionate advocate for innovation on behalf of patients and industry, Cindy is committed to driving methodology to best serve the needs of advancing healthcare at home.


Sharon Seaton, RN, BSN, CHPN, HCS-O, HCS-D, CCS-HH

Sharon Seaton has 34 years of varied Home Health and Hospice experience in clinical and senior management, as well as experience in compliance in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Her focus has been on quality, compliance, and education. As an Executive Director her organization was awarded the "Hospice of the Year" designation for growth and quality scores. She also was the recipient of a Rotary International grant for rural hospice care. She has also worked as a Quality Assurance Reviewer for Home Health coding, OASIS and Hospice Coding Services. Currently, she is a Program Manager at WellSky. Sharon has been a featured speaker at conferences across the U.S. showcasing both Hospice and Home health coding and compliance.

Joanne Ford, RN

Joanne Ford is a Registered Nurse with over 35 years of experience in the hospice and post-acute setting. Having held many positions, from CNA to Clinical VP for a large nonprofit organization, Joanne understands the challenges of providers from all perspectives. She is particularly interested in improving operations for front line staff while ensuring revenue goals are achieved. Joanne believes the key to improving quality measures can be found in the way teams communicate with each other and their patients. Joanne is currently the Director of Hospice Clinical Operations for Corridor/Wellsky.

Jeffrey Jeter

Jeffrey Jeter has spent his career focused on corporate compliance and health care fraud. He served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Louisiana Department of Justice for five years, prosecuting health care fraud and nursing home abuse. During his tenure with the Louisiana Department of Justice, his office was recognized by the Office of Inspector General as the top state health care fraud agency in the nation. While at the Louisiana Department of Justice, Jeffrey also drafted the state’s criminal anti-kickback statute. During this time, he also led the development of the Advanced Medicaid Fraud training course utilized by all Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCUs) across the country, where he also served as a faculty instructor. 

Jeffrey left the Department of Justice and was appointed Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Counsel for Amedisys Inc., where he oversaw corporate compliance for the publicly-traded company (NASDAQ: AMED) and its 400+ home health and hospice agencies. In this capacity, he was responsible for the development and implementation of compliance risk-based scorecards and audits, a revamp of the company’s Medical Director program, adoption of the Company’s HIPAA privacy program, reformatting of its home health compliance program, and implementation of its hospice compliance program. He was also instrumental in the mergers and acquisitions program for Amedisys, including the development and oversight of compliance due diligence and transactional legal work. Jeffrey also maintained responsibility at Amedisys for conducting internal investigations and responding to governmental inquiries, including negotiating settlement agreements and corporate integrity agreements. As corporate counsel, he has been involved with employment and labor matters including enforcement and defense of employment agreements and non-compete agreements, as well as EEOC compliance. He was also responsible for the development and legal oversight of Amedisys’ Political Action Committee.


CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION & CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEUs)

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider #CEP17394) for nineteen (19) contact hours of continuing education. You must be present for the entire workshop to earn Continuing Education Units. No partial credits can be given. Certificates will be distributed at the completion of the program on the third day.


CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations are subject to a 20% handling fee. There will be no refunds issued for cancellations received within 10 business days prior to program. Cancellation requests must be in writing. Refunds will not be made for no-shows. However, substitutions will be allowed. Should CAHSAH® cancel the program, a full registration fee refund will be issued.
