CAHSAH Fights to Delay $25 Health Care Minimum Wage
CAHSAH is supporting a proposal from Governor Gavin Newsom to delay implementation of SB 525, the recently enacted $25 health care minimum wage bill. Facing a state budget deficit of somewhere between $38 billion and $68 billion, the Governor has suggested as part of his 2024-25 budget proposal that the $25 health care minimum wage be temporarily suspended before it is implemented.
As it impacts our industry, the $25 health care minimum wage is scheduled to be instituted as follows:
$21 on June 1, 2024
$23 on June 1, 2026
$25 on June 1, 2028
It is estimated that implementation of the $25 health care minimum wage across all sectors of health care will cost the state an additional $4 billion in 2024 alone.
CAHSAH is fighting hard with a broad coalition of health care providers and facilities to delay implementation of this onerous requirement. Please watch for additional information from CAHSAH on this issue in the days and weeks ahead.
