Happy New Year and welcome to the world of the 2025 state legislative session, the 119th Congress, the last two years of the Newsom Administration, and the first month of Trump 2.0

All eyes for now are seemingly on Washington where President Trump is in the process of building his administration with people and policies to guide him for the next four years.  At the same time, a deeply divided U.S. House of Representatives has the narrowest of margins in favor of Republicans, and the U.S. Senate is also deeply divided with a GOP majority of 53-47 (including two independents) which means that only three Republican Senators can stray on any appointment votes with Vice-President Vance poised to cast tie-breaking votes if necessary.  And for our industry, all eyes are on the confirmation hearings for Health & Human Services Secretary-designate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator-designate Dr. Mehmet Oz – both of whom will have a massive impact on home health, home care, and hospice care.

And here in the Golden State, it’s all about new bills being introduced, the state budget and what it might look like come May, the LA area fires, and how much California will push back on Trump Administration proposals (mostly in the form of Executive Orders) addressing a wide range of issues that could impact our industry in one way or another.  And if that’s not enough, we are also in the midst of early jockeying to determine who might follow Governor Newsom in two years, and how the Governor handles his last two years in office.

Rest assured that CAHSAH is, as usual, on top of all of these issues and perfectly positioned to weigh-in on behalf of our members on policy and administrative matters at the state and federal level as they present themselves to us in the days, weeks, and months to come.
